Urban Primary Health Care Services Delivery Project-II UPHCSDP-II

The Project aims to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity by strengthening the urban primary healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that people receive quality health care services including safe delivery. Another objective is to ensure free service of Ultra Poor people coming from the project areas and provide service to other at affordable cost.

Shimantik- UPHCP started its journey in Dhaka City Corporation from July 2000 and in Sylhet City Corporation area from April 17, 2007. UPHCSDP-II is the new phase (Phase-4) which is the 3 years 8 months duration (August 2019 to March 2023). UPHCSDP-II is finance by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Bangladesh. The project operated by the joint collaboration of Govt. & NGO and monitored under direct supervision of Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through City Corporation Health Department.

The UPHCSDP-II is committed to deliver all kind of primary health care services in reproductive and child health category. Ensure safe delivery with post-partum family planning care is one of the major components of the project. UPHCSDP-II is also liable to ensure primary health care for general patient and ensure effective referral to serve CDC (Communicable Disease Control) patient in adequate way.

The project provides 30% free of cost services to the Ultra Poor people of the project area, ensure certain percentage of cost recovery against the clinic expenditure, ensure quality service at free or affordable cost from the respective service point (including Mobile Satellite) of the project areas, ensure BCC activities in community level to change the people health seeking behavior and establish effective referral linkage between tertiary and primary level health facilities.

Shimantik is dully registered with the Social Service Department [Syl-7(221)/84, dated 16 May 1984] and NGO Affairs Bureau (Registration no.298 dated 28 May 1989), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP).
